Translation: Going beyond Words
An English translation of your German text can provide a new group of readers access to your company, products, services, ideas, and creativity. But in order to connect with your audience, your translation must do more than replace German words with English ones: a good translation needs to reflect your message, your context, and your style while producing the intended effect on your target audience. I work directly with my clients to understand the message, context, and readers of their texts as well as any terminology and publishing requirements. As a result, I am able to provide high-quality, well-crafted translations on a range of topics that fulfill their purpose in English.
Translation Rates
Translations are billed per line of the German source text (a line is 55 characters including spaces). Line rates typically range between CHF 3.50 and CHF 4.50, depending on the complexity of the text and subject area as well as on specific project and terminology requirements. Rates include quality control by a second qualified translator (German-English). For new clients, I offer a one-time discount of 20% on the first 50 lines of text translated. Editing: Adding that Extra Polish
In addition to translation, I offer editing services for texts written in English by either native or non-native English speakers. Editing takes your texts to the next level and ensures that your message is communicated accurately, effectively, and idiomatically. When editing, I analyze not only the grammar, spelling, formatting, and formal aspects of your text but also its logic, flow, style, consistency, and suitability for a particular use. I edit a wide variety of text types and am familiar with US and UK spelling and writing conventions as well as various style guides.
Proofreading: Getting it Right
I can proofread your English text to ensure that it is correct in terms of grammar, spelling, and punctuation and to check that its formatting is consistent. Editing and Proofreading Rates
Editing and proofreading are charged by the hour (CHF 100 per hour). The amount of time needed to edit or proofread a text depends on its length, its complexity, and the level of writing. Please contact me for more information or a quote.
